Pyrography: Wood Burning Outlines: Why you may not be achieving Realism (Voice Over)

Pyrography: Wood Burning Outlines: Why you may not be achieving Realism (Voice Over)
Ok take 2! This is a speed video of my live showing how to do gradients and whether or not to outline your subjects. If you are feeling frustrated that your pyrography doesn’t have the realism you want and you outline…this may be the reason. I show how you can use negative burning, gradients and pen control to get closer to your wood burning goals. Not all outlining in wood burning is bad, so we need to look at the differences.

I burned this on birch that I purchased from Michael’s. It is in the model section not the wood section. I start with the colwood flat round shader and move onto the Walnut Hollow versatool for the rest of the video.

  1. Sorry about the last posting. The video didn't have an ending for some reason. 😬 I hope this speed version helps those who may not have time to sit & watch a live. Let me know if this has helped you. 😀

  2. Great explanation! Really helpful, especially talking about heat settings etc – thank you

  3. that was quite interesting , I myself have dabbled at it , you bring me a new insight

  4. How do you seal the leather so that it can withstand weather conditions like rain etc and keep the integrity of the design intact?

  5. Very cool. I used to burn when i was younger and decided to pick it back up. I was an avid outliner. I see now that it's not necessary.

  6. Your videos got me to go buy a razortip ss-d10 and now I have a channel. Thank you for all your helpful tips!

  7. Very clear video and it's a good option to make a second speed up video. I'm thinking of doing the oposite. lol. A less speed up video of the same work. Both the outline and dark pencil marks make the subject to look less real. Excelent aproach.

  8. Fully enjoyed the full "live" video, but this presentation really fills in the finer details of your approach, giving such a clear insight to how you work and to achieve those results. Really great and happy you posted both! Cheers! 🙂
