This video is for the ASMR people: nearly an hour of chiselling, filling and scraping 90 year old ekki that’s forming the base of this ‘T’ style Reloved Custom guitar. The base is 3 pieces of ekki salvaged from an old power station and the top is a single piece of reclaimed yew. Here I’m starting the process of shaping the belly curve into a shape that I’ve used a number of times before. This body has a series of weight relief chambers cut into the ekki – positioned to avoid the carve areas.
I love making shapes by hand but in the last week I did finally buy myself a decent bobbin sander and a small (hopefully functional) band saw. I’m so busy at the moment that I can’t afford to waste too much time on long drawn out processes such as sanding or using the router to cut every shape.
