If I don’t have much time to build a project, I sometimes enjoy putting a piece of wood in the vice / vise and practicing planing. It helps to maintain good technique and to check the condition of the tools. I find it very relaxing and therapeutic

I demonstrate my collection of hand planes, mostly inherited and refurbished to a good working state

The are mostly vintage except for a couple of them

Stanley 110

Stanley No3

Stanley No4 1914-18 with a cheap Indian Iron (I haven’t refurbished the sweetheart blade yet) The Rosewood Tote need repair and the Lateral Adjustment Lever is missing (I have an exact replacement to install) This Plane works beautifully as it is 🙂

Stanley No5

Old Wooden ECR Smoothing Plane

Soviet Union Era Wooden Smoothing Plane 1977

Old German Wooden Smoothing Plane

Cheap Chinese Block Plane

Record 060 1/2 Block Plane ( I almost scrapped this one as it was completely unusable when I got it, but after a lot of work it is now functioning really well)

I like the idea of making my own Tools, especially if it is a Tool that is not easily found or readily available. Handmade Tools give great satisfaction and for me it is fun knowing that I created something to help me better improve my woodworking experience.

  1. I always wanted one but not the new store bought ones . I'm looking for the an old weathered aged one that belonged to a craftsman. The older the better for looks and simplicity. That reminds me i need to sharpen mine lol
